“…for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.” I didn’t write these words, but whoever did is using some very strong language. Think about it. The writer is making a claim that he chooses contentment in all circumstances, even when the circumstances are not in his favor. Again, those are some strong words…” I have learned to be content with whatever I have.” When I lose my job, I am content. When the person closest to me abandons me, I am content. When my bank account is dry, I am content. When I am discouraged, I am content. When I am separated from something or someone I love, I am content. The message of the apostle Paul, who penned these words, is clear. Circumstances should not determine contentment.
How is contentment possible when life seems out of control? Paul reveals the secret to his contentment in Philippians 4:13, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” The strength to endure is found in Christ. Our gaze must not be fixed on the circumstance, but on the God of the circumstance.
I needed to read this today! You are the best blog writer I know and that’s not just because you’re my husband. It’s true!
Thank you for this. I will remember this everyday and especially on those really tough days. Your posts help me see things from a different perspective.
Amen. So very well said and something I’m learning day by day. Thank you for posting.
Wonderful post. I really needed to hear that no matter what is going on bad or good we should be content. Thanks again!
I need to be reminded of that all the time. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
